Precision Dip Force Gauge
Regulate Like A Concert Technician !
When leveling keys and measuring dip, the felt punchings on the front rail have varying amounts of compression depending upon how hard the key is pressed. The very affordable Precision Dip Force Gauge option, shown here, attaches to the QuicKey Leveler. It is superior to and eliminates the need for weights when doing regulation work. It applies a consistent force to all of the keys when measuring key dip, rather than relying on the technicians sense of touch. Consequently, using the Precision Dip Force Gauge eliminates the variablity of felt punching compression, which results in the most precise key dip measurement and setting.
The Precision Dip Force Gauge consists of a special cylinder with a rod end that contacts the key being measured. A hand bulb forces air into the cylinder; the harder the bulb is squeezed the more force that is applied to the key. The air from the bulb compresses and creates the pressure neccessary to extend the cylinder and depress the key to the force (grams) the user desires. The user is able to see what force is being applied to the key using the round force gauge shown in the picture above.
After leveling is complete (using the QuicKey Leveler key leveling tool and method), the rail is re-installed with the Precision Dip Force Gauge to further aid the technician in regulation. The setup is used to precisely measure key travel, touch weight, after touch, down weight, and up weight. Again, since after touch depends on how hard the key is pressed (how far the front rail felt bushings are compressed), the Precision Dip Force Gauge can be used to apply a consistent force to the key when measuring after touch with the indicator. By extending the cylinder and watching the force gauge, the technician can measure and adjust touch weight, down weight, and up weight.
